Have you ever experienced a creative block? Well, settle in for a delightful story that’ll quench your confidence. The Dot brings a message about self-realization that any child can relate to, and any adult will appreciate. Vashti is a young student, frustrated by an assignment and with her artistic ability. A wise teacher finds the most sneaky and clever way to motivate her. Within the span of a few beautifully-illustrated pages, the protagonist’s character develops in a grand yet believable manner. Then, when your heart is already full, she pays it forward! The font took a bit of getting used too, but it adds to the charm of the book. It’s a highly-repeatable read and would make a perfect gift for that creative kid (or fellow adult) in your life.
How do you overcome an artist’s or writer’s block?
Excerpt:
“Vashti’s teacher leaned over the blank paper.
‘Ah! A polar bear in a snow storm,’ she said.
‘Very funny,’ said Vashti. ‘I just can’t draw…'”
