Book Review: The Book Hog
Written & illustrated by: Greg Pizzoli
Approximate read time: 8 minutes
Age group: 4 – 8
Rating: B
The Book Hog tells the tale of a pig that loves books. Without giving away the twists, it’s a very sweet story about the value of literacy and library resources, and the kindness of others. Our only other named character is Miss Olive, a generous and kind elephant librarian. The story is simple but touches on a subject that matters to parents and educators, and encourages struggling readers. The illustrations are pleasant, with clear lines and a consistent color scheme throughout.
Did you, or your little one, struggle with learning to read? It’s so common, but not often discussed.
Excerpt:
“The Book Hog loved books.
And he had quite a few.
(…)
But the Book Hog had a secret.
A BIG secret.”
